SCHOOL SCHEDULE

 

Sunland supports both year-around schooling and a traditional school year. For more details on which would best fit your family, contact the office. Some families begin during the summer in order to have flexibility in their schedule during the school year. The traditional school year begins in September.

 

1st Semester: September 12, 2022 – January 27, 2023

1st Quarter: September 12 - November 11

2nd Quarter: November 14 – January 27, 2023

 

2nd Semester: January 30, 2023 - June 16

3rd Quarter: January 30 – March 31

You may come to the office, or email or mail a photo of your student (or you as the parent-teacher) to the office and request an ID card. (Cost $2) School photo packages are also available for purchase ($25 = 1– 8x10, 2- 5x7, 8-wallets and student ID card).

Mon, Oct 24 - 10am                HIGH SCHOOL and SENIOR ZOOM MEETING –

This meeting covers information about the requirements for receiving a Diploma vs. a Certificate of Completion, applying to colleges or universities, SATs, etc. Plan to attend. Emails will be sent out in advance inviting you to participate. Prepare to take notes, ask questions, and connect with other families and seniors in the school.

 

                                                   SENIOR EXIT EXAMS!

If your senior has not passed their exit exams, you may request a test to be emailed to you. Seniors are required to pass proficiency levels on the achievement test prior to graduation. Call the office for more information.

JANUARY

​

Sometimes it is hard to get back into the swing of school after the holidays. It is OK to allow a few days to help your children get back into a routine. If you need help re-energizing them, give us a call. Families with Seniors (12th graders) will be charged a senior fee ($50) in February. The senior fee covers the administrative assistance Sunland provides for seniors during their final high school year and the creation and mailing of official transcripts. Seniors need to be focusing on preparing for life after high school, whether a job, the armed forces, college or university.

APRIL

 

ANNUAL ACHIEVEMENT TESTING!

 

Annual achievement testing is a tool for evaluating your student's development academically. Testing is required for 3rd, 5th, and 7th through 12th grade!  While testing is administered at home, a block of group testing is scheduled at the office for those in Southern California who would like to have their students tested in a group setting. SCS uses the IOWA Test of Basic Skills for 6th grade and under (we do not test Kindergarten) and the SAT (Stanford Achievement Test) for 7th grade and older. The test requires approximately two days from 9am - 12noon and costs $40 per student. Students not in the required testing grades (1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th), may be tested upon parent’s request.

While the majority of our students take the test at home, we offer group testing at the school office. If you are interested in participating in the group testing, (Grades 3-12), testing will be a two day process, from 9am till 12 noon both days. Sign-up required.

Fri, June 16                             4TH QUARTER /2ND SEMESTER ENDS 

The end of the school year may vary depending upon when your student completes their work. Some families may need to continue into the summer for completion. Copies of Final Record Keeping for all grades are due two weeks following the completion of the school year for your family. Please fill in the appropriate information on either the Report Card (Preschool – 8th grade) or the Course Description (High School) and send a copy to the school (fax, email, postal service). If you need any assistance, please contact us! 

 

Sat, June 17         11am           GRADUATION Ceremony!

Students who complete their course of study may be awarded a certificate (Preschool – 8th grade, Seniors – diploma) at an in-person ceremony (Sign-up required)! Or notify the office by mail, email or text, or by arranging an appointment at the office for your student to receive their certificate or diploma from Mr. Neven.  Parents are required to provide the office with closing grades to help finalize their schooling.

JULY

 

Thurs,  July 6                          SUMMER SCHOOL

Sunland offers a summer school session for students from public and private schools that need to make up a class or two before the fall school session starts. Sunland high school students needing (or desiring) to take a “summer school” class may also do so. Contact the office for more details.

RE-ENROLLMENT

           2023-2024 school year begins July 1, 2023! All students are automatically re-enrolled, unless you notify the school otherwise. Re-enrollment fee of $50 will be billed on July 1st. Families paying tuition with credit/debt cards will be charged on July 1st.

                                                Families may begin their school year any time prior to the starting date,

                                                but no later than September 11th.
